Top Drawer 2016 – a quick round up

Top Drawer 2016 – Olympia

I love days like today. No deadlines. No rushing. Nothing but a whole load of interior inspiration with some really lovely company. Top Drawer is a mecca for retailers to come and see what’s new for Spring and Summer 2016 from homewares and fashions to crafter’s wares and gifting. If you buy cards for a shop this is the place you need to come. There’s tons of talent to choose from.

As an Interior Stylist I get to come and see what wholesalers are going to be selling and therefore what products I can shoot in the coming months. It’s a great place to source new furniture, accessories and news-page worthy items and make new contacts at the same time.

The event which was at Olympia was larger this year than last and the look of the stand designs were fantastic – lots of peeling wood- my fave, scaffolding planks and large wooden shelving units. I could have shopped till I dropped. Luckily  wholesale purchases only were the name of the game or I might have had to re-mortgage!

There were a lot of companies I was really impressed with but here in no particular order are some.

Coach

If I was an Interior Designer and not a Stylist I would probably shop almost exclusively at Coach House. It's always the first place I'm drawn to at shows. They have a style to suit all tastes - glamourous, modern, shabby chic, french styled but their industrial collection is always my favourite. As I walked around the show it was obvious that a big trend emerging is realistic faux flowers and Coach House had the best. Oh my goodness. They looked beautiful.

Jennifer Collier

The talent of some people just astound me! Jennifer Collier sews paper and card to create everyday objects. The difficulty of making a curve is high- I can sew- I know! The details are astounding. Loved the typewriter, bird houses and old school telephone

Nkuku

NKUKU
The Nkuku stand was vast and had a huge array of stunning furniture, home wares, baskets and dare I say it Christmas decorations! I was really drawn to the brass accessories. They looked so gorgeous against the rustic wooden tables. I wanted them all! www.nkuku.com

Helaina Sharpley

Helaina Sharpley’s wirework art is just incredible. What looks like a fine drawing in pen is actually thin wire bent and twisted into a design. On display were large pieces including a large landscape of Scarboro and 3D tea cups hanging on hooks – all made with intricate wire detailing. Helaina was there and was all smiles. It was lovely to meet her. I think she’ll be featured a lot in 2016. So original and unless you are seriously talented and patient un-copyable. www.helainasharpley-wirework-artist.co.uk/

Rice

There’s something about Rice.dk that just keeps me coming back for more. I don’t know whether it’s the pretty designs, the fact that they can introduce yet another cake stand that I just have to add to my obsessive collection or that they keep adding new unexpected items to their range – like wallpapers coming to the UK soon. Contact Eijffinger.com for more details about UK Stockists.

Cards

http://ruthjackson.comWhen it came to the stationary there were so many to choose from. I don’t have a huge amount of call for cards unless it’s Christmas but as I was reading some of them I was literally laughing out loud. They are hysterical. Faves included Doodles from Allihopatrade.co.uk and Ruth Jackson‘s pencil shaving cards as seen above.

So, I’m feeling all inspired and looking forward to sharing with you all the new fabrics and wallpapers I discovered today, but till then I hope this has inspired you.

The Truly Alice shoot

I think this has to be one of my favourite shoots of 2015. Not only were the Talking Table products out of this world – did you see the mini cake stands? but it all just fell into place. Helen, the marketing manager can really find the best shoot locations. This one was a spectacular manor house in Surrey which had the most amazingly vast gardens complete with topiary trees. The props were so much fun – giant pocket watches up to your elbows, mis-matched armchairs, top hats, rabbits and a crazy array of chintzy china. It was my idea of heaven. To top it all off the sun was out and it had been raining the whole week prior to this one day shoot which made the shots perfect!
